The American Society for Indexing (ASI) is a nonprofit association founded in 1968 to promote excellence in indexing and to increase awareness of the value of well-written and well-designed indexes.

If you're an indexer, are thinking about becoming an indexer, or are considering hiring an indexer, you'll find helpful information here and through contacts with members of the Rocky Mountain Area Chapter. Our diverse membership is made up of:

• experienced and beginning indexers
• part-time and full-time indexers
• freelance and inhouse indexers
• editors, technical writers, publishers, librarians
• indexers of books, journals, and databases, and web-based materials (among others)
• indexers with expertise and experience in a variety of specialty areas

The objectives of the Chapter are to:

• improve the quality of indexing and secure useful standards for the field
• act as an advisory body on the qualifications and remuneration of indexers
• issue occasional books, articles, and other material on the subject of indexing and cooperate with other societies and organizations in such publications
• defend and safeguard the professional interests of indexers
• cooperate with other societies and organizations in the field of indexing and information science

The Rocky Mountain Area Chapter also provides general indexing information to publishing professionals and organizations in the region.
